Breakfast Is NOT the Most Important Meal of the Day.

By on May 13, 2012

You know, I was thinking a lot about the whole topic of breakfast being the most important meal of the day last night before I went to bed. And at first I thought to myself yes it sure is. But then I began to wonder WHY do I say that. And it occurred to me that the only reason I thought that way is because I have heard it a million times before.

From TV commercials, to family and friends saying it, to articles in fitness magazines. They all say the same thing “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day”. Right then and there when I realized that, I realized how much I (just like everyone else) am completely drawn into mass marketing and cultural beliefs.

Now obviously, food is fuel & energy for our bodies and without it we spend the day stumbling around in a fog and fighting off a headache and a bad attitude. That is, if you are part of the group that eats loads of grains, sugars and the normal American diet.

If you are used to eating grains, refined sugars and processed foods, it is hard to go without a meal. I remember being on the normal American diet and feeling like crap if I went longer than 3 hours without food. If you are on the Paleo / Primal type of diet, going without a meal (intermittent fast), is quite normal. I actually do this a lot now.

When I wake up in the morning, sometimes I want food, and sometimes I don’t. And you know what, that is ok. If you are a breakfast eater and can’t go without one, don’t. If you don’t want to eat in the morning, don’t.

Don’t be led by what others tell you. Feel your body. What does your body want?

Now I will say this, eating a good breakfast will help burn more calories and raise your metabolism than not eating one. But I also belive this is due to WHAT you eat not just when. Your stomach can not tell the time of day. Only that it wants food or doesn’t. Thats it!

In my personal opinion, breakfast is NOT the most important meal of the day. Every single meal is the most important meal of the day. And what you eat should be the most beneficial food that you could put in your body.

Also, in my opinion, if you are not following the Primal / Paleo diet, you need to start! I started the Primal Diet and lost 15 pounds in just 3 weeks. I felt better than I had in years and had so much energy I was bouncing off the walls.

Imaging going on a long long walk. Then going through a round a sprinting (7 X 100 yard sprints with 30 sec. rest between each), then punching on the heavy bag for 30 minutes solid and when I was done, I was wore out. For about 10 minutes that is. Then I wanted to do 30 minutes more. Yeah, that type of energy!

Here is a great book to help you get started. It is called the Primal Blueprint by Mark Sission. It changed my life and I know it will yours as well. Get it now!
